Start with the Construction Site
The launch walkthrough identifies the Construction Site as an early Clay stop. The regional resource guide also lists Clay there alongside Scrap Wood, with materials around the construction area rather than one guaranteed object.
Use the area name to orient yourself and inspect the accessible ground, structures and corners. Do not copy a fixed collection count from an older quest guide without reading your own objective. The amount required for one story step may be different from the total needed for a station and a garden bed together.
Check the next recipe before leaving
Clay connects several opening crafts, so plan the trip around what you intend to make. The beginner route includes early gardening and station setup; later research work introduces flower pots that use processed material.
A useful gathering note separates these questions:

For a recipe asking for two Adobe, the reported base ratio means ten Clay before accounting for any bonus result. Treat that as simple planning arithmetic, not a guaranteed critical-craft outcome. Refine the requested material, then return to the station that makes the finished object.
Follow Hazel’s actual flower-pot objective
If you are at the Hanging Gardens research tasks, gathering Clay alone is not the whole request. Read whether Hazel wants you to process material, craft pots, place them, plant something or report back. These are separate completion actions.
If placement is blocked despite having the finished item, inspect the message and your building permits. If processing is blocked, inspect station availability and battery charge. Both cases can look like a missing-material problem until you read the interface.
Combine gathering without confusing materials
